As in most places along the Bohus coast, herring fishing was conducted during the herring periods, and cod liver oil was boiled in cod liver oil factories.
The stonemasonry industry was extensive and the stone industry as a result. Stone was shipped from a large number of schooners. Some of these had the protective bay as their home port.
